Thermoplastic materials

Plastics are material formed by chains of carbon and hydrogen atoms. We call this chains polymers.

Thermoplastic material ar plastics that are softened by heating and can be formed and melted as many times as we like. This is because their polymers have weak bonds.

Thermoplastics that can be recycled:

  1. What is PET (Polyethyleneterephthalate)
  2. What is PE (High Density Polyethylene)?
  3. What is PVC (Polyvinylchloride)
  4. What is PP (Polypropylene)?
  5.  What is PS (Polystyrene)?
  6. What is LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene?
  7. What is other?
Thermoset plastics can be shaped using heat; however, once they have been formed, they cannot be re-melted to create different forms.

Plastics

Plastics revolutionised the life of human beings when they appeared in the middle of the 19th century.
Many of the containers we use for food today are made of plastic.
Many of the things we use are made of plastic.

Some Properties
Plastics are thermal and electrical insulators.
They are also resistant to corrosion.
They are easy to shape, and they are economical.
In general they are non-biodegradable.

Environmental impact
The use of plastics creates a lots of waste which has a direct impact on the environment and our health if we do not recycle them properly.

3D printing
Recently, the development of 3D printing had opened up a wold of opportunities as  the design of personal objects.

What is a 3D printing and how does it work?
